Where to fly kites

Parque De La Paz, San José, Costa Rica

A nice park south of the city - close enough to downtown that it makes for a nice weekend walk - unfortunatly it's still so close you don't get the fresh forest air that you would find in Santana for example. However it has a great hill for flying kites and throughout the week some real monsters go up there. Cheap kites are available from park vendors for a dollar or two. There's a walking bridge over the highway that leads to the north part of the park with an artifical pond and island on which there is a monument erected to Costa Rica's destruction of arms. Great place to enjoy the Copas Ricos - the cups of shaved ice with powdered & condensed milk and syrup that the nearby vendors sell. Be prepared for lots of families and kids - not a place to go for solitude but rather to enjoy a nice day as the Ticos do.
